Vistara’s engines failed at Patna airport, flight delayed by 4.30 hrs

Passengers were later informed that the flight they had boarded has encountered some major technical issues and engineers have been pressed in to service to rectify the faults

Patna: Passengers of Patna-Delhi flight of Vistara (UK 718), a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SIA), had a harrowing time on Friday when its engines suddenly brokedown on the runaway, just before the take off.

The flight had 154 passengers on board. The pilot, who drive the plane on the runaway after final check up, noticed that engines were working abnormally. Before he could understand the reason, the engine turned idle. Multiple efforts of the pilot to restart the engines turned futile, forcing the airport authorities to toe the aircraft back on the apron.

The plane had landed in Patna from Delhi at around 10.20 am and was bound take of on its return at 11.05am.

The passengers had to be de-boarded and taken to the security hold area following the engine’s breakdown of the aircraft. They started creating chaos at the airport, as the airline (Vistara) officials did not apprised them about the next flight for Delhi. Some of the passengers had connecting flights from Delhi. The passengers were asking for another flight to resume their onward journey or for their accommodation in other flights.

Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which man the security of the airport, had to be called to handle the impatient crowd of passengers. The passengers were informed that the flight they had boarded has encountered some major technical issues and engineers have been pressed in to service to rectify them.

Meanwhile, engineers despatched from Delhi took up control of the aircraft and resolved the fault after four and a half hours of efforts. The passengers were asked to board at around 3.40pm. However, 12 persons, who had connecting flights from Delhi had cancelled their journey while 142 of them left for their destination with the same flight.
