Nearly 10,000 govt schools in Bihar to be equipped with computers

Apart from the cost of computers, the education department has worked out additional monthly expenses of each school in the range of ₹22,500 to ₹33,000

Patna: Nearly 10,000 government secondary and middle schools of the state will soon have dedicated computer sections, equipped with advanced desktop and laptops. The state education department has asked the district education officers (DEOs) to ensure purchases the suitable number of computers at the earliest.

The education department has asked for installation of the advance computer system, either desktop or laptops, in the government schools so that the students are properly trained to handle the system, improve their understanding for machines and prepare themselves for the market needs.

In separate letters to all the DEOs, additional chief secretary, education, KK Pathak on Friday (August 25), also emphasised on appointing security guards so that the computers are not stolen from the school premises. In the letter, Pathak cited that computers installed in the schools earlier were stolen, as there was no security guard. The department has shortlist the agencies for arranging security guards at schools during the nights.

The DEOs have been asked to get computers or laptops installed in the schools in their respective districts from any one of the 20 agencies selected by the department. The education department has been emphasising on upgrading infrastructure of the schools and taking various measures to improve educational qualities in the government schools, ever since Pathak took over as the department’s executive head.

Pathak in his letter clearly stipulated that all the DEOs has been given the responsibility to ensure installation of computers in the schools’ lab at the earliest. As per the order, each secondary school shall have 20 computers and middle schools needed 10 computers to ensure adequate time slot for the students to get trained about computer operations.

In the letter, Pathak has asked the DEOs to get the security guards before installation of the computers to thwart any bid to steal the system from the schools. There have been incidents of computer theft from many schools in the past. That’s why security personnel will be deployed before computers are installed in schools.

Apart from the cost of computer system, the department has worked out recurring monthly expenses of around 24500 for each middle school and ₹33,000 for each secondary school. The cost is inclusive of the remuneration of the computer instructors.
