Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday put a stay on the final publication of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission’s (JSSC) combined graduate level (CGL) examination, conducted on September 21 and 22.
The much-needed reprieve for the students came a day after Jharkhand police showered lathis on protesters, who were seeking to gherao the JSSC office in Namkom in protest against gross irregularities in the conduct of the examination. They were also alleging that the question paper of the exam was leaked and asking for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in the matter.

The high court stayed the publication of the merit list of the candidates at a time when the JSSC has released the initial result and qualified aspirants are being called for document verification. The document verification process commenced on December 16.
A section of the JSSC officials said that the court’s intervention has put a temporary halt to the finalization of the selection process. “The court, however, did not stop other processes related to the exam but publication of the final merit list,” said the officer, adding that the ongoing document verification process will continue as planned.

The candidates who have been shortlisted for document verification are advised to appear for the verification process as per the scheduled dates. Additional dates have been allocated for candidates who may miss their scheduled document verification on December 26 and 27.
The JSSC CGL recruitment process has been marred by controversies, including allegations of paper leaks. On the first day of the document verification process, a group of protesters led by JLKM leader Devendranath Mahto staged a massive demonstration to disrupt the proceedings. The protest turned unruly, leading to police intervention and the arrest of Devendranath Mahto, who was leading the demonstration.
