Harley-Davidson launches bike at ₹2.29 lakh, queers road for BMW

Harley-Davidson X440 will rival BMW G310 RR, Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda H’ness CB350, Benelli Imperiale 400 among others

New Delhi: Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle, which forayed in the Indian market, is set to face stiff competition with the BMW G310RR.

Revealed earlier this year in May, the Harley-Davidson has launched its X440 bike with a price tag of ₹2,29,000 (ex-showroom) onwards in India. The BMW G310’s range starts at ₹2.99 lakh. Royal Enfield has already captured a sizeable market with its Classic 350 and other variants in the same price range.

The Harley-Davidson X440 bike has been co-developed by Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp, while the BMW G310 RR has been made in partnership with TVS Motor.

Like the TVS, which unveiled TVS Apache RR310 with almost the same look and machine of BMW G310RR, the Hero MotoCorp will handle the nationwide sales, service, and merchandising of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. It is positioned as the most budget-friendly motorcycle in Harley-Davidson’s lineup, surpassing the Nightster’s price point.

Harley-Davidson X440: Design and features

Harley-Davidson’s X440 is an Indian market-focused motorcycle engineered for cost-effectiveness. The motorcycle has an air-oil cooled engine with a 440 cc capacity, redlining at 8,000 RPM, indicating a potential long-stroke engine design based on early visual previews. The all-new Harley-Davidson bike has a classic teardrop-shaped fuel tank with iconic badging. It is offered in a variety of colour schemes including striking matte finishes.

On the design front, Harley-Davidson X440 sports design similar to the modern small Roadster infused with classic inspiration, blending timeless elements from earlier Harley-Davidson models. It is equipped with an advanced LED lighting with premium switchgear. Harley-Davidson badging seen within the headlamp highlights the brand’s commitment to delivering a high-quality and refined experience. It has a single-piece seat kinks that flows into the pillion section. The motorcycle flanks meaty grab rails on either side and a simple looking exhaust system.

Braking duties on the Harley-Davidson X440 are performed by a disc in the front as well as at the rear. There is also dual-channel ABS on offer. While suspension duties are performed by USD forks in the front and twin gas shock absorbers at the rear.

The X440 is equipped with alloy wheels – an 18-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, paired with tubeless tires. These tubeless tires are provided by MRF.

BMW G310 RR design and features

BMW G 310 RR is powered by 313 cc engine, which generates a power of 33.99 PS @ 9700 rpm and a torque of 27 Nm @ 7700 rpm. The claimed mileage of G 310 RR is 30.3 kmpl. The motorcyle comes with disc brakes in the front and rear and kerb weight of 174 Kg. It has tubeless tyre and cast aluminium wheels.
