Active caseload of Covid goes up to 25,587. Kerala worst hit

New Delhi: The recent surge in corona virus infection has begun to haunt the country yet again. The total load of active cases of Covid infection has risen to 25,587 on Thursday after 5,335 people were found sick with the disease on Wednesday. Six persons, two each in Karnataka and Maharashtra and one each in Kerala and Punjab, have succumbed to the disease during treatment.

The active caseload of Covid in India stood at 16,354 on April 1.

Officials of the ministry of health and family welfare said apprehended that the cases of Covid infection might go up, if people refrained from adhering to the standard safety protocol at public places as well as at home isolation.

Condition of Kerala is the worst with over 1400 new cases of corona virus infection getting detected on Thursday. As many as 8,229 people are undergoing treatment for Covid infection in the state. Delhi too received a spike in Covid cases with 85 more persons getting themselves registering for treatment on Wednesday.

Karnataka and Maharashtra have active case load of 1,477 and 3,834 as on April 6. Officials said that 66 persons were found down with Covid in Karnataka and 82 new cases detected in Karnataka on April 5.

Bihar and Jharkhand have 51 active cases of Covid. Nine more people were found infected with Covid in Bihar on Wednesday. As many as 22 people are being treated for various stages of Covid in Patna alone, said an officer of Bihar health department. A new variant of corona virus was found in Bihar, which is more infectious of the viruses found earlier.

Meanwhile, health departments of both Bihar and Jharkhand governments have ramp up the pathological test for genome sequestering to isolate the most commonly found variant of the virus. Special arrangement has been made at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, to provide specialised treatment of the patients and conduct the genome sequencing of the samples of infected persons.
