Patna: Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPIN) airport at Patna will soon be equipped with CAT-I instrument landing system (ILS). After installation the new ILS, the visibility requirement for landing and take off at Patna airport will be reduced to 650 metres from the existing 1000 meters.
Landing and take off of flight usually get stalled during the winter season due to visibility issues. The fliers have to wait for long duration for improvement in visibility or have to return disappointed due to cancellation of flight due to fog.

Recently, the divisional commissioner, Patna, Kumar Ravi met the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials at the JPNI airport and asked them to expedite the installation of the upgraded ILS at the earliest. “Passengers’ safety are of utmost importance. Hence, were are taking all precautions to make landing and take off of flights safe,” said Ravi.
Ranchi’s Birsa Munda airport is equipped with CAT-I ILS
The AAI, Ranchi, has earlier this year installed the CAT-I ILS at Birsa Munda airport at the cost of around ₹5.67 crore after replacing the outdated instrument landing system. The landing system has to be upgraded in conformity to the requirement of increased traffic at the airport.

AAI Patna director asks for pruning of trees at Patna zoo
During his meeting with the officials of the district authorities, Patna airport director Achal Prakash gave a power point presentation about construction of new airport terminals, safety measures taken at the airport and security apparatus at the airport. He urged the adjacent Patna Zoo officials to ensure pruning of trees, which often disrupt visibility at the airport.
Sale of meat banned in airport area
Now the sale of meat and fish has been completely banned in the Patna airport area. Meat-fish shops in the open will be continuously monitored. Legal action will be taken against the shopkeepers who violate this. This decision has been taken by the Airport Environment Management Committee held on Thursday. Patna Commissioner Kumar Ravi has ordered strict compliance of this order.

Source of birds will also be reduced from airport
Kumar Ravi said that work is being carried out to reduce the source of birds in the areas around Patna airport. He said that the source of attraction for birds should be reduced in the areas around Patna airport. The place of maximum gathering of birds should also be removed. This instruction has been given so that control can be found on the phenomenon of bird-hit.
