Bengaluru: A pregnant woman travelling in a bus experienced delivery pain en route and delivered a baby in the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus with the assistance of a lady conductor. Both the girl child and mother are safe and healthy now.
On Monday, a KSRTC bus bearing registration number KA 18F 0865 of Chikmagalur depot of Chikmagalur division operating on Bangalore-Chikmagalur route was carrying 45 passengers. One of the pregnant passengers experienced delivery pain in in the afternoon at 1.30 pm near Udayapura Agriculture college.
As there was no hospital around, woman conductor S Vasanthamma, with token no. 245 felt the need to help the pregnant woman, stopped the bus and made all the passengers get down from the bus and facilitated the pregnant to deliver the baby in the bus itself.

As the pregnant woman was financially weak, the crew of the bus collected ₹1500 from the passengers of the bus and handed over the same for emergency expenditure of the lady. Later the lady was shifted to Shanthagrama Hospital through an ambulance and provided necessary treatment. Now the girl child and woman are healthy, said a KSRTC official.
The timely humanitarian service of lady conductor in responding to the needs of the pregnant and saving the life of child and mother is highly appreciable. This exemplary service by lady conductor is appreciated by G Sathyavathi, managing director, KSRTC.
