UltraTech, JK Lakshmi to set up cement plants shortly in Bihar

Bihar Industries Association (BIA) officials foresee employment opportunities for around 5000 youth in the state once these investment proposals see light of the day

Patna: Two major cement companies, UltraTech and JK Lakshmi, will set up manufacturing plants in Bihar in coming months. The state government has given necessary clearance to the proposals of both the companies having a total investment plan of ₹698-crore, an official of the Bihar’s industries department.

UltraTech Cement, an Aditya Birla group company, is building a cement factory in the outskirts of Patna at Daniyawan with an investment of ₹369 crore. The company has already acquired land there and started building the plant. Officials of the cement company said that they hope to start cement production by the year-end.

UltraTech Cement has already commissioned an upgrade to its grinding plant at Patliputra industrial area in Bihar. The 2.2Mt/yr upgrade brings the total capacity of the unit to 4.7Mt/yr. The cement producer will use the additional capacity to serve market demand in the east region of the country. It has a total national cement production capacity of 129Mt/yr.

JK Lakshmi Cement will build a manufacturing plant worth ₹329 crore in Madhubani for which land has been proposed. The cement company has gone ahead with its plan to acquire land in the district after its investment proposal received the first state clearance from the state government.

Bihar Industrial Development Authority (BIADA) has allotted 45 acre land in Lohat industrial area, Madhubani, to JK Lakshmi Cement to set up its cement manufacture plant. Apart from cement, the firm is likely to manufacture AAC blocks, POP & readymade concrete at its Madhubani plant.

The industries department official said that investment proposals of these two companies have been granted green signal in the 54th meeting of Bihar Investment Promotion Council on March 15 under the chairmanship of development commissioner Chaitanya Prasad.

The council also cleared a proposal for setting up an ethanol plant in Gopalganj district in which ₹105 crore will be spent. An investment of ₹30 crore will be made in mega food park in Motihari and ₹38 crore will be made in BIADA area, while a shop and shampoo manufacturing unit will also be set up in Vaishali district.

Bihar Industries Association (BIA) officials foresee an employment opportunities for around 5000 youth in the state once these investment proposals see light of the day. “People will not need to migrate to migrate to other states, they will get easy employment in their own towns. Now gradually Bihar is moving towards the industrial sector,” said a BIA functionary.
