New Delhi: In its bid to enhance credibility in higher studies, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has barred three universities in Rajasthan from awarding Ph D degree on the charges of compromising integrity of the course.

The notice, signed by UGC secretary Manish Joshi, said that the commission arrived at this decision after the standing committee, constituted by the UGC to monitor whether universities are following the laid down procedures in the award PhD, found certain anomalies after the scrutiny of functioning of these universities.

“One of the mandates of this standing committee is to suggest corrective measures and recommend action to be taken against erring Universities,” the notice stated.

“After analysing/examining/evaluating the information/data submitted by the universities, the committee has found that three universities did not follow the provisions of the UGC PhD. regulations and also the academic norms for the award of Ph.D. degrees. These universities were offered sufficient opportunity to explain. However, the responses received from these universities were not found satisfactory. The standing committee has, thus, recommended that the UGC may debar these universities from enrolling PhD students for the next five years,” read the notice.
