New Delhi: A post of former engineer of Alphabet-owned Google on linked in has gone viral on the social media. He was one among the team of Python at Google, was laid off. In his post, Matt Hu, vividly describes the night he came to know about the news of him being shown the door along with others in the team.

Reports say that the Google has laid off several of its employees in a bid to slash costs. Entire Python team was also removed from job in its apparent bid to hire less expensive labour outside the United States. It is said that the new team for Python will be recruited from Germany.

Matt Hu, who was working as a software engineer at Python and hails from China, narrated that he cooked food at home with his girl friend and watched the television together after he was apprised about the Google’s decision about laying of his entire team, including the manager. He said he got the hind about the bad news as soon as he switched on his laptop.

Matt, who was working in the US on an H-1B visa, further penned on the linked in he received a ‘weird’ email at around 9pm, when he went downstairs and opened his laptop to check mails. “The main read: ‘Your Cloudtop StopInstance operation has begun’. and I suddenly recalled I just had the cloudtop maintenance a few days back, it couldn’t be a scheduled task, there is definitely something bad happening. I even ‘Momaed’ (Google’s internal search engine) ‘what stopinstance means’ and I did get the results from the website, so I chose not to believe I was leaving the company,” said Matt.

Even though he was working with Google for the past couple of years, he described that time as “the longest five minutes in my life”. Matt was shocked to see that he lost access to multiple sites and had a “forced laptop reboot”. He had also received an email saying “Notice regarding your employment”, by which he realised that his “watch at Google is over”.

Anxious about his fate in the company, Matt texted his coworkers and to his utter disbelief he came to know that some other members were also laid off. “My hands were shaking. “While I was drafting a farewell (basically an advertising) email to people under my skip manager, I received another email from my direct manager. He got laid off too, together with the TL at our neighbor team,” he wrote in the post.

“As he wrote, ‘my hands are shaking as I write this email’, my hands were shaking too while reading. He’s been at Google for almost 13 years, he founded our team from the first line of code, built everything from scratches, now he had to say goodbye to his baby, with limited corp access except Gmail. I replied to the email instantly, and suddenly the whole team showed up, people were around at night, surprised by this sudden but devastating change. We all know what it means to our team,” the former employee said.
