CM Soren opens National Khadi & Handicraft fair at Morhabadi

About 300 stalls of Khadi products and 140 of handcrafts and other items have been set up in the fair, where buyers can get up to 25% discount on the products on display

Ranchi: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the six-day Rashtriya Khadi Evam Saras Mahotsava here at Morhabadi ground on Sunday with a call to the local entrepreneurs to make the world class products and get attractive returns by exporting their produce.

Organised as an annual affair by Jharkhand Khadi Board with a view to providing market to those engaged in the cottage and handcrafts in the state and outside, the fair will continue to January 12. Hundreds of entrepreneurs from Jharkhand and the rest of the country will display their khadi products at 300 stalls, while around 120 stalls have been dedicated for display of handicrafts, local delicacies and wooden works.

Exhorting the local artisans to showcase their talents and complete at the national and international level, Soren said that the government was marketing products of local people under ‘Palash’ brand name, which is free from any impurities and chemicals.

Chief executive officer of Jharkhand Khadi Board Rakhal Chandra Besra said that eight sections of the stalls have been dedicated to local fabric brands like Mysari, Kunkha, Biru, Betra, Pinghna, etc. “Unique Identity Development Authority of India (UIDAI), CM small cottage industries, Silk, handloom and handcrafts directorate, Jharcrafts, etc., have also set up their stall in the fair,” said Besra, adding that 25% discount was being offered on Khadi and 20% on other fabrics at stalls.

Earlier, Soren and rural development minister Alamgir Alam, Ranchi Member of Parliament Sanjay Seth and other dignitaries were greeted at the fair with presentation of a ballet based on life and contributions of Mahatma Gandhi. Later they also visited various stalls and enquired about the products on display.
