Air India Express has announced scheduled flights from Delhi January 16, while direct flight to Kolkata and Bengaluru will be available from January 17

Ayodhyadham: A week after its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union cabinet on Friday approved the proposal to name Ayodhya Airport as “Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham”.

Prior to it, the airport was known as Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport, Ayodhya. PM Modi had opened the rebuilt airport on December 30, which also saw landing of Air India Express and Indigo flights from Delhi as their inauguration operation.

Officials of the ministry of civil aviation said that elevating Ayodhya Airport to international status is paramount for realizing Ayodhya’s economic potential and its significance as a global pilgrimage site, opening doors to foreign pilgrims and tourists.

The airport’s name, “Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham,” pays homage to Maharishi Valmiki, the sage attributed to composing the epic Ramayana, adding a cultural touch to the airport’s identity.

Ayodhya, with its deep cultural roots is strategically positioned to become a key economic hub and pilgrimage site. The airport’s potential to attract international pilgrims and businesses aligns with the city’s historical prominence.

Air India Express has announced scheduled flights from Delhi January 16, while direct flight to Kolkata and Bengaluru will be available from January 17. Indigo will be operating regular flights to Ayodhya from Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai.
