Cabin crew members join duty, Air India Express breaths it easy

Strike by a section of cabin crew to protest against the airline management had forced cancellation of hundreds of flights since Tuesday night, while 20 flights were cancelled on Sunday

Mumbai: Normalcy is returning fast on flight operation Air India Express (AIX), which recently suffered due to the mass sick leave resorted to by the cabin crew members over a prolonged merger related disputes.

The cabin crew union stated that all members, who had reported sick, have joined duty and flight operations are now being streamlined.

The Tata group owned airline, which operates around 380 services daily, meanwhile cancelled at least 20 flights on Sunday, said an AIX official and added that complete normalcy in flight operation is expected by Tuesday morning. There was no official comment from Air India Express.

The strike by a section of cabin crew to protest against the airline management had forced cancellation of hundreds of flights since Tuesday night. On Thursday, the strike was called off after negotiations with the cabin crew union. The airline also withdrawn termination letter issued to 25 cabin crew members following conciliation meeting conveyed by the chief labour commissioner in the national capital.

The conciliation meeting was attended by representatives of the airline and the Air India Express employees union (AIXEU), stated a release issued on Sunday. The union said all cabin crew members, who had reported sick have joined back, and as there is no delay on part of the cabin crew. “All who reported sick joined their duties by May 11, 2024,” said the union.

It is, however, said that due to in the company’s scheduling software as it was recently introduced, it is still showing that staff are on sick leave. The official said flights are being slowly restored and stabilisation of Network is expected by Tuesday morning.
