Bihar CM launches ₹72-Cr Punauradham complex renovation work

Punauradham in Sitamarhi, which is part Ramayan Circuit, is considered as birthplace of Maa Sita, and devotees from across the country and from Nepal throng the place in large number every year

Sitamarhi (Bihar): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday launched ₹72.47 crore project for renovation and improvement of tourists’ facilities at the famous Punauradham temple—believed to be the birthplace of Maa Janaki—complex in Sitamarhi.

Tourism department secretary Abhay Kumar Singh gave detailed information to the chief minister regarding the development works to be taken up in the Punauradham temple complex through the site plan. The CM also took stock of the Punauradham complex and Sitakund and instructed the officials to complete the development works of Punauradham Temple at the earliest.

“Develop the Sitakund situated in the temple premises properly and get it beautified in a better way. With the completion of the development work, the devotees coming here will get a lot of facilities. They will feel happy after coming here,” Kumar said.

Punauradham is one of the important sites associated with the Ramayana circuit in Bihar. For its development, the tourism department has proposed to construct a covered circumambulation path around the Punauradham temple, which will include excellent architecture using sandstone. For the convenience of tourists, construction of parking for vehicles, cafeteria, kiosk and toilet facilities for visitors have been proposed in the Janaki Mahotsav grounds.

The development plan also envisages construction of Sita Vatika and Luv-Kush Vatika. Shanti Mandap will be built near Sita Vatika for meditation. There is also a provision for 3D animation showing the life story of Goddess Sita, which will be a major center of attraction for tourists.

There is Maa Janaki Janmabhoomi temple in Punaura village of Sitamarhi district of Bihar, which is also known as Punauradham. It is believed that Mother Sita was born at this place. Due to Punauradham being the birthplace of Goddess Sita, a large number of devotees from every corner of Nepal and India come here. The tourism department has been consistently making efforts to add tourists’ facilities near the temple complex with the aim of developing it as a world class religious tourist destination.

The first phase of work for the development of Punouradham complex by Bihar tourism has been completed, which includes integrated building, pilgrim residence and subway.

On this occasion, Bihar legislative council chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur, finance and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and a host of political leaders and senior bureaucrat were present on the occasion.
