Patna: Axe is likely to fall on those school teachers, who availed the benefits of relaxations meant only to the local residents and got the jobs after being declared qualified by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) during the past two recruitment tests.
The state education department has begun identifying such teachers, who got less than 60% marks in the Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test (CTET) and got the appointment letters. As per the norms, only local residents of Bihar were eligibility for 5% relaxation in the CTET marks, while those of the other state were required to pass the eligibility test with at least 60% or attain 90 marks in the test.

“As the teachers’ recruitment examinations (TRE) were conducted by the BPSC in a hurry and critical verification of the documents of each successful candidates was not possible, the education department had issued the provisional appointment letters. Now the department has launched critical evaluation of each candidate so that only deserving aspirants shall be allowed to serve,” said a senior officer of the education department.
So far, the department has shortlisted 10 such teachers of various schools in Aurangabad, who availed the benefits of relaxation meant for the local residents of Bihar, and were asked to return their appointment letters to the department. “Action could be taken against thousands of teachers. The ten teachers asked to surrender their appointment letters teach Hindi, Sanskrit, English, social science, mathematics and science subjects in the government schools,” said the officer.

State president of Bihar School Teachers Association, Amit Vikram said the notification issued by the general administration department (GAD) categorically stated that only original natives of Bihar will get the benefit of reservation in Bihar. “And whether it is a woman, a disabled person or candidates of different categories who are from other states, they will claim only 50% of the general category seats,” he added.
However, candidates from other states got reservation benefits. Amit further said that reports are coming out that women candidates from other states have also been made teachers here after the BPSC granted them the benefit of reservation. “This was done in violation of the rules. The education department must cancel all such appointments and release the supplementary results on the vacant seats, qualified candidates from Bihar should be made teachers,” added Amit.

More than two lakh teachers have been appointed as teachers in two phases of the examination conducted by the BPSC early this year.
He further said that after availing the benefit of reservation, these candidates have also become teachers in Bihar. According to Amit, no response was given to the first RTI. “But now that answers are being received, many shocking cases of irregularities are coming to light,” he added.
