New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday released its annual list of ‘fake’ universities ahead of the new academic session. Delhi happens to home the highest number of eight fake universities among 20 such institutions listed by the UGC that lacked the authority and competence to confer degrees.
According to UGC secretary Manish Joshi, these institutions have been offering degrees in violation of the provisions stated in the UGC Act. As a consequence, degrees obtained from these universities will neither be recognized nor considered valid for further education or employment purpose.

The eight fake universities in Delhi include All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences, Commercial University Ltd in Daryaganj, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR-Centric Juridical University, Indian Institution of Science and Engineering, Viswakarma Open University for Self-Employment, and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya (Spiritual University).
In addition to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh also has its share of institutions on the UGC’s list. Four universities, namely Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University), and Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, have been branded as ‘fake’.
