Patna: Consensus eluded in the meeting between Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) and the education department on Monday over format for examination to be conducted for recruitment of around 1.70 lakh teachers for different schools.
In an apparent bid to leave no gaps in the already complicated recruitment process, BPSC top officials held a meeting with officials of education department to finalise the modalities and terms and conductions for launching the selection process. “However, the BPSC and the education department failed to reach agreement on various issues including negating marking during the meeting that last for more than two and a half hours,” said a senior officer of the education department, adding that the meeting would continue tomorrow.

Amid continued protests from the teachers appointed by the urban local bodies (ULBs) and panchayati raj institutions (PRIs), the BPSC has announced the schedule for conducting the recruitment test for eligible aspirants for teachers from from class 1 to 12.
At today’s meeting, which was attended by the BPSC chairman Atul Prasad, additional chief secretary, education department, Dipak Kumar Singh, and representative of the general administration department (GAD), it was decided that teachers’ eligibility (TET) passed candidates would be given 10 year’s age relaxation. There will, however, be no limit for already appointed teachers to participate in the examination. The first set of the recruitment examination is slated to begin on August 19.

“There is no consensus regarding negative marking. The ACS, education, had suggested a few changes in the examination pattern, which the BPSC was not willing to accept. Hope, there could be some consensus in the next meeting,” said a GAD officer.
Earlier, BPSC had sent the draft of the vacancy to the education department, so that there would be no shortcoming and mistake in the advertisement.

Format of examination
The format of the vacancy that BPSC was sent to the education department envisages examination of 150 marks in 2 hours. There will be negative marking. That is, in case of a question having 5 options, 1 mark will be deducted for the wrong answer of 4 questions. Whereas in case of a question having 3 options, one mark will be deducted for 3 wrong answers. In the paper of 150 marks, 100 marks have been kept from the subject and 50 marks from general studies. But it will be mandatory to get 30 marks in the qualifying paper of 100 marks. Original copy of the candidates who get less than 30 marks will not be checked.
