Patna: A record 81.04% of students have passed the matriculation (10th) examination this year, the result of which was announced by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Friday. This is 1.17% higher than the previous year. This is the best result since 2011, when it comes to overall pass percentage. Earlier in 2019, 80.73% of students had passed.
As many as 16,10,657 students had appeared in the examination, of which 13,05,203 students passed. In 2022, 12,86,971 out of 16,11,099 candidates were successful. Last year, 6,08,861 male and 6,08,861 female students had cleared the exam.
This year’s results were dominated by boys. From overall passing to the list of toppers, boys have outshone girls. A total of 90 students have made it to the top-ten list, of them 57 are boys and 33 are daughters.
According to the list released by the BSEB, 21 children have joined the top five positions have been shared by 11 boys and 10 girls. While while the top 6-10 have included a total of 69 children of which 23 are girls.

Releasing the results at the Bihar Board office, education minister Chandrashekhar and BSEB chairman Anand Kishore said This year, 4,74,615 students have passed the examination with first division. There are 2,73,933 boys and 2,00,682 girls have bagged the first division. That is, more than 73,000 students have passed first division than girls. As many as 5,11,623 students have passed from 2nd division, who include 1,00,29 boys and 1,07,000 girls. As many as 10,125 girls and 9,322 boys have passed with 3rd division.
Top performers
Md Rumman Ashraf of Islamia High School, Sheikhpura, wrest the 1st rank with 489 marks, while the 2nd rank has been shared by Namrata Kumar of Nirmala Siksha Bhawan High School, Shahpur Patti, Bhojpur and Gyani Anupama of Project Girls’ High School, Goh, Aurangabad with 486 out of the total 500 marks. Third position has been secured by three students, Sanju Kumari, Bhavna Kumari and Jaynandan Kumar Pandit of Nalanda, West Champaran and Lakhisarai. They all got 484 marks.
Number of failed students declines
The number of students, who failed to clear the matric examination has come down this year. The number is 3,05,454, which is 18,674 less than the previous year. In 2022, 3,24,128 students had failed. The failures include more girls than boys. Around 10.93% of girls have failed to clear the examination, while 8.03% of the boys failed this year. According to experts, the biggest reason for the decline in the number of failures is the change in question pattern. Objective questions have been given priority in the questions for the last two times.
1.6 million copies evaluated in 9 days, results in 37 days
This time, the matric results have come within 37 days of the end of the examination. The Matric examination was held between February 14 and 22 at 1,500 examination centers in the state. The evaluation of the copies started on March 3. Evaluation took place until March 14th. There was a two-day Holi holiday during this period. Accordingly, more than 1.6 million copies were evaluated in just nine days.
Matric results have been released in March for two years
The BSEB has made several important changes in the matriculation results. Not only are students being given bumper marks by the board, but the time for releasing the results has also been reduced to March. For the last two years, the BSEB has been releasing the Matric results on March 31. From 2019 to 2021, it was released in the first week of April. From 2012 to 2018, the results were released in June.
