Patna: Come September, and Patnaites will have smart parking facilities in the vicinity of crowded market places or near congested office spaces in the city.

Failing to significantly improve its tally in Swachhata Sarvekshan, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to launch the smart parking at 37 places across the state capital to earn some brawny points to jack up its position in the next survey.

Officials of the PMC said that they have completed the process of awarding work to different contractors to run the parking facilities after completion of tendering process. Parking facilities are being developed near Vidyut Bhawan, BN College, Ashok Rajpath, Dak Bungalow Chowk, Patna Electricity Supply Undertaking (PESU) office, PHED office, Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam office, SK Puri Park, Eco Park, etc, which attract huge crowd in day time.

Some of the agencies have been given work orders to raise the infrastructure of smart parking such as sensors, moving and close-circuit TV cameras, public announcement system, attached computer set up, etc, to run the installations. Officials hoped that all the smart parking slots would be ready in the next 30-45 days to accept the parking of vehicles.

The officials, however, refrained from specifying the charge for parking, saying that it would almost similar to the parking charge currently being levied by the PMC at other places. “However, the operators would be free to use additional facilities like online booking, smart card, auto-pay stations and selling the space for advertisement for extra revenue,” said a public relations officer of the PMC, adding that the people would have facility to book the parking slot online in advance.
