Patna University prepares ₹750-Cr plan for building south campus

University vice chancellor Girish Kumar Chaudhary will submit proposed plan, mainly consisting of residential flats for teachers, staff & students to education department prior to his retirement

Patna: The Patna University administration has prepared a master-plan for development of its south campus in Saidpur area, which is barely 4-5 km far from the academic campus. University officials said that the south campus is mainly proposed to have residential facilities for the teachers, university staff and hostels for the boys.

“The entire South Campus in Saidpur is currently planned to be converted into a residential campus at a cost of ₹750 crore. For this, the proposal with the model will soon be sent to the state education department by the university for approval,” said a senior official of Patna University.

In keeping with historic glory of the Patna University, which is the 7th oldest varsity in the country, the state government has sanctioned ₹163.60 crore plan for building a seven-storeyed science block, two blocks of ten-storeyed new girls hotel and a four-storeyed staff quarter soon in the existing university campus. The demand for building new buildings for academic and residential purposes was being made by the university for the past many years.

Officials said that the south campus will have hostels for accommodation of about 7,000 students. Besides, there will be separate residential buildings for the teachers and staff. There will be a football ground in the middle of these buildings, a volleyball court as well as a mini market complex, where students will also get everything they require. The marketing complex will be towards the Bazar Samiti campus.

Blueprint along with architectural model of proposed south campus ready

Officials said that blueprint of the campus along with architectural model of the residential premises and other amenities area ready.

There would be five-six buildings of ground plus 10 (G+10) shape for different shapes and sizes. Some have been earmarked for boys hostel, while others will be for the accommodation of teachers and staff in the proposed south campus. There will be enough space for sports activity in the middle of the ten-storey grand buildings. You will be able to play football, hockey and cricket in it. Additionally, construction of a swimming pool is already proposed for use to all residing in the campus. A separate volleyball court will also be built. Special attention will be paid to keep the campus green.

Students will reach campus in minutes by metro

Construction of metro is also going on near south campus and metro station is also being built near Science College campus. The north academic campus in south campus will be a distance of just one station. That is, in minutes, students will be able to reach the academic campus and attend the classes. Teachers and staff will also be able to reach the academic campus easily. The entire campus of north is already developed on the academic campus.

Master plan to be submitted to govt soon

Vice-chancellor of Patna University Girish Kumar Chaudhary said that he would present the master plan of the proposed sought block to the education department prior to the end of his tenure (22 September). “I am doing this so that even after my departure, the plan remains in the pipeline and the south campus of PU can also be expanded. Chief minister Nitish Kumar has assured all kinds of cooperation for the development of the university,” said the vice-chancellor.
