Bihar gets 1st international business centre to promote exports

Postal Department in association with Customs Department opens international business centre-and-Dakghar Niryat Kendra at Patna GPO to cater to business community dealing in export of goods

Patna: To facilitate smooth and easy export of goods, the Bihar Postal Circle has opened an international business centre (IBC) at Patna general post office (GPO) on Tuesday. This is the first such centre in the state which will not only bolster export potential of the state but will also create job opportunities for hundreds of youths.

Chief Postmaster General (CPMG), Bihar, Anil Kumar today inaugurated the state-of-the-art IBC, describing it as a boon for the businessmen and entrepreneurs of Bihar. “The IBC or export facilitation centre will also be an important step towards the development of the state. It will handle international postal parcels and postal items and will provide custom clearances, which will enable quick execution of items booked in post offices in Patna and its surrounding areas. With this, our business friends will be able to send their goods to their destination at a faster pace,” added the CPMG.

Officials said that functioning of the IBC would be finetuned through the joint initiative of the Postal Department and the Customs Department. Very soon, custom superintendent and inspector will provide regular service in the IBC, so that the foreign going postal articles, which are currently sent outside the country after getting custom clearance from Delhi and Kolkata, will now get clearance from the IBC , Patna GPO. At the same time, this center can also be seen as “one stop solution” where packaging, booking and execution of goods brought by customers will be available at one place.

The CPMG in his address said, “The inauguration of this international business centre would provide a unique opportunity to the business community of Bihar to make its mark at the global level. This center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, which will provide various services to the businessmen as per their requirements.” He further said that through this center the businessmen of Bihar will get immense facilities in export-import, parcel delivery, and other business services. Along with this, special counters have also been set up at the centre, where a team of trading advisors and experts will provide guidance to the traders.

CPMG Kumar also mentioned that the objective of this center is not only to facilitate business activities but also to provide new employment opportunities to the youth of Bihar. He said that the latest technology has been used in this centre, which will make the functioning more efficient and time bound. Kumar also appealed to all the businessmen and entrepreneurs to take maximum advantage of the export facilitation centre at the GPO and establish Bihar strongly on the global business map.

With the opening of international business center-cum-Dakghar Niryat Kendra at Patna GPO, a lot of enthusiasm was seen among the traders and customers and on the day of inauguration itself. More than 50 articles were booked for other countries. Earlier, traders and businessmen had to book their goods for export by visiting export facilitation centres at Kolkata, Delhi or other metro cities. Former Bihar Industries Association (BIA) president Ram Lall Khetan said that export facility from Bihar had been snapped for more than a decade after the export corporation shut down its region office here.

Director of Posts (Headquarters) Pawan Kumar, Chief Postmaster, Patna GPO, Manish Kumar, Deputy Chief Postmasters Anil Kumar, Kumari Sarita and Pranav Mohan and other dignitaries, business community representatives were present on the occasion.
