Many candidates in the petition have alleged that they have been allocated cities, which are highly inconvenient for them to reach. The petitions said the test cities were allotted on July 31, and the specific centres will be declared on August 8.

While the allocation of the centres was done to curb malpractices, the plea said due to the paucity of time, it is difficult for the candidates to make arrangements for travel to specific cities.

The petitioner challenged the decision of the National Board of Exams to hold the exam in two batches and apply a normalisation formula. In addition to requesting a postponement of the exam, the petitioners had also demanded that the normalization formula used for the four different sets of question papers be made public.

This transparency is aimed at ensuring that there is no potential for unfairness or arbitrariness in the examination process.

Earlier, the Supreme Court has decided not to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam despite concerns over a paper leak and alleged malpractices. The Court determined that there was insufficient evidence to suggest that the leak compromised the integrity of the exam as a whole. It also noted that calling for a re-exam would have significant repercussions, impacting over 23 lakh students and potentially disrupting the academic calendar for years to come.
