Patna: Next 24 hours is crucial for about 3.75 lakh Niyojit Shikshak (teachers on contract) in Bihar for settlement of their demands, which included government employees status, syllabus for competency test and choice posting.
This is because, a delegation of niyojit sikshak on Thursday met the state’s deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, who not only acknowledged their demands being genuine and assured to talk to the government on their issues.

The teachers are annoyed by the state government’s decision to grant the government employees’ status to only those niyojit shikshak, who pass the competency test and their posting in one of the three districts opted by them. The government had decided to given them three chance to pass the competency test.
Accordingly, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) had called for application from the teachers for the competency test by February 15. As the teachers are agitating for their demands, a majority of teachers refused to fill up the online application form. This compelled the BSEB to extend the date of form filling till February 19.

“Most of the demands put forth by Niyojit Shikshak are of bonafide nature. I will talk to the minister concerned and try to evolve an all-agreeable solution,” said Samrat Chaudhary after the meeting.
The teachers have been agitating in the past one week to press for their demands. Thousands of teachers from across the state have poured in the state capital and staging dharna in Gardhanibagh. They had also taken out march to gherao the state legislature, which forced the education minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary to hold talks.

Teachers’ leaders said that the education minister had assured them to allow two more chance to pass the competency test. “Now the minister had assured that there will be five competency test, in place of three earlier decided. While three will be online, the later two will be conducted in off-line mode.
However, teachers are not contented with the minister’s assurance. They wanted more clarity on the syllabus of the competency test, seniority of service and choice based posting after they pass the exam. “We are keeping our finger crossed until the final decision of the government to decide our next course of action,” said one of the teachers’ leader.
