Patna: In order to ensure quality teaching in higher education institutes, Bihar’s education department has asked all government’s aided private degree colleges to submit details of academic activities to the department everyday on google sheet.
The colleges failing to abide by the instructions may face suspension of grant and affiliation, said a senior officer of the education department, citing a letter from the director of higher education. “Higher education director Rekha Kumari has written to the registrar of all universities to ensure compliance to the department’s order by all their affiliated colleges. The department will be compelled to take away affiliation and suspend grant if the colleges refused to do so,” said the officer.

The colleges and technical institutes of higher education across the states have been asked to update academic activities on the google sheet on a daily-basis for the past few weeks. There are around 300 private degree colleges and technical institutions, who received grant on the basis of their annual performance. “While some of the colleges have started updating their report on the google sheet, around 230 colleges are there in the list, which are yet to wake up to the reminders,” said the officer.
Salary payment of principals/in-charge held up
Principals and in-charge principals of around 200 colleges have been directed not to take their salary from the colleges for their failure to submit academic details of their respective colleges on the official websites. In the order issued on behalf of the additional chief secretary, education, KK Pathak, college/institute principals have been categorically told not to take their salary either from the government’s grant or from the revenue generated by the internal resources of the institutes until the issues are resolved.
School teachers asked to stay within 15-km periphery of schools
In its bid to do away teachers’ absenteeism or delayed arrival, the education department has asked the newly appointed teachers to shift to the nearby localities of the schools of their posting so that they attended their classes regularly and on time. “The newly appointed teachers by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) have been asked to stay in houses located within a periphery of 15 kilometre from their schools in villages,” said the officer.

“Those unable to relocated near their schools have the liberty to quit their jobs,” said the officer, citing a clear-cut direction from Pathak.
