New Delhi: A fire broke out near the emergency ward of AIIMS Delhi on Monday forenoon. However, the fire was contained before it could spread to other parts of the building. There was no report of casualty, however.
Reports say that the fire broke out around 11.40 am in the endoscopy wing of the emergency of AIIMS, Delhi. Initially, the local staff tried to control it. Local fire station was called in around 11:54 am, after the thick black smoke started bellowing out of the windows.
Initially six fire tenders rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. According to AIIMS sources, the fire was triggered in the endoscopy room, on the second floor of the old OPD building, just above the emergency ward. All patients in the room were safely evacuated.
A fire call has been received from the emergency ward of AIIMS at 11.54 hours. Total 8 fire tenders rushed to the site,” Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg said.
“The fire is under control. The AIIMS director has also reached the spot to take stock of the situation,” AIIMS said. “The fire broke out on the second floor of the Old Raj Kumari OPD building. It was brought under control by firefighters, but the search operation is still ongoing,” the fire department said.
