Ranchi: The Mission Smile, an initiative to provide free treatment of cleft lip and palate, started off at Devkamal Hospital at a function held here on Sunday. The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is supporting the mission as part of its social responsibility.
Director in chief, department of health, Jharkhand government, Krishna Kumar, inaugurated the event as its chief guest. Executive director, IOC, M K Das, who had specially flown directly from Mumbai for this occasion, was the guest of honour.
The mission of 50 surgeries over the next four days and another 120 in later phases are sponsored by the IOC. Das reiterated that IOC would continue to support the programme over the next few months.
Krishna Kumar stressed that the government would support all similar missions and requested Dr Anant Sinha to train some of our state surgeons for cleft surgeries.
The meeting was later joined by chairman of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) Kishore Mantri and general secretary Abhishek Kumar.
Anant Sinha of Devkamal Hospital proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the patients and their guardians for showing faith in the mission. He requested that this partnership with Mission Smile and IOC would continue with better results.
There was a huge round of applause for Surendra Mahto, a Devkamal outreach official, who had identified and mobilized about 100 patients and more. The team from IOC and FJCCI visited the children in the post operation period.
