Patna: After building the foundation of elevated structure in different areas of the State Capital, Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) on Thursday started creating the tunnel to build underground channel for the proposed metro rail project.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar formally launched the underground work by unveiling the stone plaque near Moinul Haque stadium in Rajendra Nagar area. On the occasion, a 82 feet deep di-wall cage was inserted in the pit to start underground work, which is set to cost around ₹1989 crore.
Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD), Anand Kishor and Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Daljit Singh gave detailed overview of the construction work, alignment, its draft, plan components and work progress of Patna Metro Rail Project (PMRP) to the Chief Minister.
There will be six underground stations under PMRP- Rajendra Nagar, Moinul Haque stadium, University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and AIR metro station in the total length of 8.08 km. Officials said that the work on the elevated (overground) part of PMRP was inaugurated by the Chief Minister as a priority corridor, the work on which is currently in progress. A video film was also screened on the action plan of PMRP.
The officers were directed to complete the land acquisition and finish the work expeditiously within the stipulated time. The CM assured that there would be no shortfall of fund to complete the construction work of Patna Metro, which aimed at easing the traffic congestion and ensuring smooth movement of the people from one side of the capital to another side.
Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who also holds the UDHD portfolio, accompanied the CM during the event.
Overview of Patna Metro Rail Project
- The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been entrusted with the work of execution of both the corridors of PMRP and an MoU signed between the two entities on September 25, 2019.
- DMRC has agreed to execute PMRP for a length of 31.39 Km having two corridors, viz (i) Danapur to Mithapur (16.94 Km) and Patna Railway Station to New ISBT (14.45 Km).
- DMRC is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the project including of tender, selection of contractors for civil works, systems (signalling, communications, E & M etc.) rolling stock, AFC, integration of civil works systems safety, quality and other items as specified in the DPR.
- The estimated time of completion of Corridors from Danapur to Mithapur and Patna Railway Station to New ISBT of Patna Metro project, is September 2024, tentatively.

PRIORITY CORRIDOR DETAILS
The priority corridor comprises of the elevated section from Malahi Pakri to Patliputra Bus Terminal.
The 6.1 km stretch (from Line-2) will have five elevated stations — Patliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Khemnichak Malahi Pakri
The only depot for the entire Patna Metro project is proposed near Patliputra Bus Terminal. At present, land acquisition is under process.
There will be two Interchange Stations namely Patna Station & Khemni Chak on both the corridors.
