Patna: Anti-smog guns would roam through streets of the Capital city to bring down the level of pollutants in the ambient air. The machine would be helpful more when the air pollution goes up to the alarming levels during the summer and winter seasons.
Struggling to fight the menace of heavy air pollution, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has purchased two vehicle mounted smog-gums as part of its role in the Patna Clean Air Action Plan. The Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) had given required fund a couple of years ago to get technical resource to fight the menace of air pollution.
Officials said that the anti-smog guns were found to be very effective in checking the level of pollutants, particularly the suspended particulate matters (PM-2.5 and PM-10) in cities like Delhi and Jaipur. “In the first phase, we have procured two guns. More will be brought in once they are found really effective in its objective,” said a senior officer of the PMC.

Trial done successfully
The PMC conducted the trial of the machines on different areas of the capital city, including Bailey Road, and found the machine was effective in reducing the level of air pollution significantly. The anti-smog gun is designed to produce very fine water droplets (less than 10 microns) released in the atmosphere at a high speed. The stream of water droplets, which look like cold steam, easily absorbs the small dust particles present in the air.
Smog gun can work 180 degrees
This machine will be completely controlled by the driver’s cabin. It has huge fan speed of 2200 to 2800 round per minutes (RPM) and has tank capacity to store 9000 liters water. The smog sprayers are installed in the vehicles in such a way that can throw the water vapour all around. This anti-smog gun is specially designed to reduce air pollution by spraying in the atmosphere so that the level of all dust and particulates of pollution is reduced.
